To stream on Twitch from your phone, open the app, tap + to enter its creation controls and choose the camera or game-streaming route offered to you. Add the stream information, grant the required permissions and start the broadcast. On a PC, connect broadcasting software such as OBS to your Twitch account, prepare a scene and select Start Streaming.

Choose the route by what viewers should see. A camera broadcast shows the world around the phone. A game broadcast shares the phone screen or a captured game on your computer. Tapping a camera option does not automatically share the game you open afterward.

Prepare the account and the subject

Sign into Twitch and check the username. Your channel page is the place viewers visit to watch you; the Creator Dashboard is where you manage the stream. You can be signed in and looking at other channels without having started a broadcast of your own.

Complete any security or account-access steps Twitch requests. Use Twitch’s own pages for those steps and keep recovery information available. Connecting a broadcasting app authorises that app to work with your account; it should not require giving a stranger your password.

Pick a specific category and a plain title. The category tells Twitch what kind of content you are making. The title tells a person why to watch this session. “Learning the first puzzle without spoilers” is clearer than “Live now”. Use tags that describe the stream accurately rather than adding unrelated subjects for attention.

Decide whether the first session is mainly conversation, a demonstration or a game. You can combine these later, but a beginner has enough to manage with one main activity. Keep water, notes and the items you need within reach before turning the stream on.

Broadcast the phone camera

In the Twitch app, use + to open creation. Find the camera or Stream IRL route if that is how your version labels it. IRL means “in real life”; here it describes camera-based content rather than a direct capture of a game screen.

Allow camera and microphone access when the phone asks. Review the title, category and other stream information. Frame the camera before you press the final Stream control. An upright phone suits a tall subject, while a horizontal view may show a demonstration table more clearly.

Place the device on a stable support. Handholding it makes reading chat and showing a task harder at the same time. Check what sits behind the subject and what the rear camera would show if you switch cameras. A live camera can reveal things outside the small area you initially intended to show.

Once the live state appears, say what the session is about and begin the activity. A viewer count can update with a delay. Keep the explanation useful for somebody who arrives midway, and briefly restate the purpose at natural pauses rather than restarting the whole introduction every time someone joins.

Share a mobile game instead

Choose Twitch’s game-streaming route from the creation controls. Select the game and complete the broadcast information. Follow your phone’s screen-broadcast permission prompt. The exact sequence differs between iPhone, Android and app versions, so read the final confirmation carefully.

Screen broadcasting can show more than the game. Notifications, app switching and other on-screen activity may appear. Turn on a suitable Do Not Disturb or Focus mode, close private apps and avoid opening messages during the stream. A hidden chat overlay does not mean the underlying broadcast has ended.

On supported flows, Twitch provides stream-management controls while you return to the game. Learn where the End Stream control is before the session. The small X that closes an overlay can simply hide the controls so you can play. It is not a reliable way to stop transmitting.

Ask a trusted viewer to check game sound and your voice separately. Some apps restrict audio capture or behave differently when the microphone is enabled. If one sound is missing, identify which one before changing settings. The audio troubleshooting guide gives a useful sequence.

Set up a PC stream with OBS

OBS is a free broadcasting application. It lets you assemble a picture from sources such as a game, webcam, image or microphone. A scene is one arrangement of those sources. Start with one scene that shows only what you need.

Install OBS from its official website and run its Auto-Configuration Wizard. Choose streaming when asked what you want to do. The wizard offers a starting point based on your hardware and connection. It cannot know whether your microphone points the right way or whether the game text is readable, so you still need to check the result.

Connect Twitch through Settings → Stream using the available account connection. If you use a stream key, obtain it from your own Twitch dashboard and keep it private. A stream key is a credential that tells the receiving service which channel should receive your broadcast.

Under Sources, add the appropriate capture. Game Capture is intended for games on supported Windows setups. Window Capture shares one application, while Display Capture can show an entire screen. A capture card is useful for bringing a separate console or camera into the computer; it is not automatically required to stream a game running on that same PC.

Check the scene before starting

Look at the preview and ask what a stranger could understand from it. Is the game visible? Does a webcam box cover an important menu? Is a label too small to read on a phone? Remove decorative elements that make the actual activity harder to follow.

In the audio mixer, speak and watch the microphone meter. Then create game sound and watch its separate meter. You need both capture and balance: a voice can be present but still be buried under loud game audio. Make a short local recording and listen back before connecting to a public channel.

Open the Creator Dashboard and set your title, category and relevant tags. Then start streaming in OBS. Check Twitch’s status and the viewing page on a separate muted device. If you watch with speakers beside your microphone, you may create an echo that was not present in your original setup.

For a more detailed explanation of scenes and sources, follow the OBS beginner setup. Avoid adding several plugins at once when the basic picture and sound are still unproven.

Manage chat while doing the activity

Keep chat where you can glance at it without covering your main task. On a single monitor, the dashboard can compete with the game for space. A phone used as a muted chat screen may be enough; a second monitor is a convenience, not a condition for starting.

Tell viewers when you will check questions. For a difficult game section, it is reasonable to say that you will read chat after the next attempt. This makes a pause understandable and stops you repeatedly losing your place.

Use Twitch’s moderation tools for unwanted messages. Give a trusted helper the appropriate moderator role rather than sharing your login. Do not assume a quiet first stream needs a complicated bot setup. Clear rules and the ability to remove spam cover the first practical need.

Save the broadcast before you need it

Twitch’s Store past broadcasts setting is off by default. Enable it on the web in the Creator Dashboard’s stream settings before the session if you want a VOD, meaning a saved video viewers can watch later. A live video is not automatically a permanent recording.

The standard retention periods documented by Twitch are seven days for ordinary broadcasters, 14 for Affiliates and 60 for Partners, Prime and Turbo users. Check your account’s current setting and download a recording you want to keep. In Content → Video Producer, open the video’s menu and choose the available download action.

Publishing a VOD and storing it are separate choices. Review the automatic publishing settings if you need to check the recording before it appears publicly. A local OBS recording is another useful copy, but it needs disk space and a successful recording setup of its own.

Stop both the activity and the transmission

Say goodbye, then select Stop Streaming in OBS or End Stream in the mobile controls. Confirm that the channel has gone offline. Only then close the game or begin a private conversation near the microphone.

Afterward, watch the opening and one busy section. Improve the thing that most affected understanding: voice level, readable content or connection stability. If viewers saw loading circles, use the connection guide before spending money on a different camera.
